Lessons ...

  • When you sign your child up for music lessons, you want him or her to develop a love and respect for the art and the craft.  Lessons and More 58 nurtures a lifelong love of music in a fun environment.

  • We’ve been helping children all over Worcester County tap into the essence of music since 1990.   And as their talents have developed, we’ve helped them get in touch with and develop their love and appreciation for music … and for the worlds that shape it.

  • Your instrument, your schedule

We work with your child at a pace that suits him or her. Our nurturing and supportive atmosphere creates a low-pressure learning environment that actually develops self-motivation.

From piano to recorder, our range is as varied as the children we teach. And our schedule – we teach primarily evenings and weekends – perfectly aligns with yours and your child’s.

I love taking piano lessons, my teacher makes it fun! We play fun songs.

... and More!

What image comes to your mind when you think of a music teacher?  If you’re like many people, you imagine a school-marmish task-driver who arrives and departs at precise times, as measured as a metronome and as intimidating to your child as a Mahler symphony. “Practice, practice, practice!” you might picture her harping on your child, ruler in hand.

Well, practice certainly is important. And we do our share of insisting on it. After all, you want your child to learn! But more than music lessons, we offer life skills that will prove invaluable throughout your child’s life:

  • Time management skills.  We’ll discuss with your child how to fit his or her practice into what’s sure to be a busy school schedule.

  • Prioritization skills.  When your child isn’t quite sure which tasks are more important to his or her learning, we’ll help sort it out.

  • Presentation skills. There’s more to recitals than playing a tune. We help our students develop a confidence that they’ll apply outside their music lessons, long into their adult lives.

  • Respect for cultural traditions.  Music is culture.  And we try to instill a healthy regard for musical traditions around the world, from the Viennese waltz to Indian classical music, from vocals to instrumentals.

  • Autism and Asberger’s programs.  Science has observed that creating music calms and focuses children with these challenging conditions.  We have the skills and the experience to teach them.

  • Teaching the very young … and the very young at heart.  Our students range in age from 2 years old to 95 years young. And their skills vary from beginner to advanced. No matter the age, we have fun while working hard to do the best they can.

  • Teaching Music, Understanding Children

Lesson and More 58 is certified by Musik Garten, a pioneer in early childhood music education. Founded on the belief that all children are innately musical, Musik Garten lays the building blocks of music appreciation in children during their toddler years. By instilling a love of music early, the transition into individual lessons goes more smoothly.

  • Lessons and More 58 embraces Music Garten’s approach to teaching and applies it to our mother/toddler program. The toddler’s mind is far more open to learning and internalizing than the adult’s. And there’s no better way to bond with your child than through music.

  • Central to Musik Garten’s teaching philosophy are family involvement, a group teaching method, and developing aural awareness in children. The rhythmic patterns of music stimulate the child’s neural pathways and help to develop memory, math skills, and creative thinking.

  • The Music Garten approach to music education can begin during the first few months of life. Parents are encouraged to sing and dance with and for their children. By doing so in varied tones and rhythms, the child’s aptitude for music develops. Later, from 18 months to 3 years, the child participates more with the parent in the music-making with simple instruments and dancing.

  • Between 3 and 4 years, the child’s musical self begins to emerge during singing, dancing, chanting, and rhyming exercises. Once a musical independence takes hold, a series of pre-piano and piano lessons are introduced that can last an entire lifetime!

Not only does my child enjoy her lessons, but she has learned to be responsible.
